Rachel Gilbert is a Canadian American of mixed race living in St. John's. She works with symbolic painting, drawing, printmaking, and new media tools to explore her identity, familial experiences, and perceptions of home and homes. Since receiving a BFA in Visual Arts in 2020 and a Graduate Certificate in Museum and Gallery Studies in 2021, Gilbert has worked with The Rooms, St. Michael's Print Shop, Eastern Edge Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Visual Artists of Newfoundland and Labrador Association, and Canada Council. Gilbert is interested in increasing diversity, accessibility, and inclusion in the arts, and in 2020 worked to form the Creators' Collective NL: Indigenous, Racialized and Migrant Artists, and she continues to support BIPOC arts and cultural practices in the province.
